BOOK REVIEW: A MAN CALLED OVE....

"People said Ove saw the world in black and white. But she was the colour. All the colour he had.."

Above are the ending lines of chapter five.
It's a story about a man who had staunch principles.., who followed stringent routine , a man who appeared to be bitter but had a soft heart beneath.., yes it's the story about 'A Man Called Ove'.

People felt Ove was bitter , but he was not bitter he just did not go grinning all the time. The way he faces all the struggles in his life.., the loneliness that had crept inside him when he loses his parents.., had nobody who would love him, care for him.., he saw the world in black and white.. until Sonja plunged into his life.. yes, the love of his life and all the colour he had..

The book is the amalgamation of all the kinds of emotions. It will make you laugh..,weep a little..,and will definitely make you contemplate about this Man Called Ove..

Ove was little different and quirky , who was disliked by people.., but it was only her ..,Sonja who truly understood him and cherished his quirks..

"She often said that all roads lead to something you were always predestined to do. And for her perhaps it was something. But for Ove it was someone."

The heart of the novel remains a love story. Yes.., he loves his wife immensely and when Sonja breathes her last he does not feel worth living his life.

He plans to suicide. But the story takes over by Parvaneh, a very pregnant Iranian refugee and her family intercepting his life. Yes, it was the family who had moved next door that jelled up with Ove.., and filled in the empty void in his life..

Author describes some of the episodes in a really peculiar manner.. like the way Ove and his friend buying a new car reflected the happening of their life.. and also the opening para of book where Ove goes to buy a computer and the whole incident would eventually turn out to be hilarious as Ove being 59.., was amongst those old people who did not go well with technology.

"Death is strange thing. People live their whole lives as if it does not exist, and yet it's often one of the great motivations for living. Some of us, in time, become so conscious of it that we live harder, more obstinately, with more fury. Others become so preoccupied that they go into waiting room long before it has announced its arrival. We fear it, yet most of us fear more than anything that it may take someone other than ourselves. For the greatest fear of death is always that it will pass us by. And leave us there alone."

Ove gave clear instruction in the letter about his funeral , he did not want any ceremony, he only wanted to be thrown in the ground next to Sonja.. and that's all.. yes, he loved her deeply.

Novel will definitely arrest your attention once you start reading it and in the end will leave you contemplating about Ove's life.
It's a must read.
